New Farnley Old Boys vs Old Tablelands – 17/06/24

Yesterday, New Farnley Cricket Club played host to a New Zealand touring team called Old Tablelands from Wellington. The game was played in the right spirit and everyone enjoyed socialising afterwards with a beer and a bite to eat from the BBQ. Scorer Noel Bullock managed to grab a photograph with former Blackcaps talisman Hamish Marshall and they both had a good chin wag. Chairman John Baldwin was presented with a bottle of wine as a thank you and he’s also got a plaque that will no doubt be put up on the wall inside the clubhouse.

Howard Davies RIP

Everyone at New Farnley Cricket Club are deeply saddened following the passing of Howard Davies earlier this week. Howard was simply a part of the club’s furniture and if ever there was a “Super” Loyalty Card holder, Howard would have been top of the list, whether it was on a Wednesday evening having a drink and a chat with his close friends, having a meal on a Thursday evening with his family, having a “Happy couple of hours” socialising on a Friday tea time, enjoying a breakfast on a Saturday morning whilst waiting for Mags in the gym, being a “member” of the “Western Terrace Ultras” on cricket matchdays and being a regular supporter and attendee at many of the club’s social events. He was always very jovial and sociable and loved his family dearly, more often or not his conversation would start with “Are Andy”, everyone enjoyed his company, whether it was whilst talking to the ground staff when walking the dogs, listening to his thoughts and opinions on @leedsunited or having a quick chat whilst he ferried and shuttled drinks from the bar. Our thoughts go out to all of the family, Mags, Andy, Claire, Niamh, Ruby, Ian, Harry, Austin, Bronwyn, John, James, Nicola and his close friends, Dave Watson, Mick Punter, Mick Hector & Pat Graham plus many, many more. Prior to today’s (Saturday 1st June 2024) game against Ossett, we held a minutes silence at 11:45am as a mark of tribute. We will all miss him dearly. RIP Howard Davies 🙏

Robert John Charles Hiscoe #RIP

Everyone at New Farnley Cricket Club are deeply saddened and devastated to hear of the tragic news about Robert John Charles Hiscoe.

Rob was a local hero and very popular character around New Farnley and the wider Leeds Community, fondly remembered during lockdown for entertaining everyone “Vera Lynn” style with his nightly singing shows that lasted well into the early hours of the morning until the bottle of gin was no more, raising thousands of pounds for the nhs.uk.

Rob sung many times at the club, brightening up parties and celebrations with his wonderful voice making the events special and memorable, he also brightened up many living and dining rooms, hallway, stairs, landings, bedrooms and kitchens with his wonderful decorating skills.

Personally, Rob sang at our President’s Stephen Dalby‘s 40th and 50th birthdays and Rachel Dalby Was Welbourne‘s 40th which were very special and decorated their house from top to bottom on many of occasions, singing as he went along, wonderful value for money.

Our sincere condolences go out to Christina HiscoeNevaeh HiscoeNyla-Rae Hiscoe and his wider family and close friends.

RIP Robert Charles John Hiscoe – RJC Painter & Decorator – Local Community Hero – Marching On Together.

Bill Dove #RIP

Before start of play with Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club in the Bradford Premier Cricket League, Helen Steel of ITV Calendar rung the bell as all players, both umpires and everyone else observed a minutes silence in memory of former umpire Bill Dove who sadly passed away this week.

ECB Clubmark Accreditation

A huge well done and thank you to Richard Good supported by Martin Wright in retaining our ECB Clubmark Accreditation, a lot of hard work goes into securing this.
Clubmark is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports Clubs. It stands for: Higher standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management in community sports clubs.
“The time and commitment required to effectively run a cricket club cannot be underestimated, we hope that retaining accreditation goes some way to recognising all of the work that those involved in running your club put in. Having a network of safe, welcoming and well organised clubs is vital for the future of the game and retaining Clubmark status shows that you and your volunteers are at the forefront of this”.

NFCC Golf Day – 06/04/24

It’ll be held on Saturday 6th April 2024 and will be at The Manor.
Order of the day will be:
• 11:30 arrival at the course for a bacon sandwich and coffee.
• 13:00 first tee off
• 18:30 Back to the club for awards, food and a few more beers.
You can enter a team of four or individually and be drawn into a team.
It’s £35 for day per head or £140 per team of four that includes your breakfast bap, coffee, round and food after! For members at the Manor, it’ll be £10.50.
I’ll pop a spreadsheet up in the minute to register your team online and they’ll be a paper one going up in the club.
Noel Bullock is going to be collecting the cash for the day, he’ll put some payment details up shortly or you can drop some cash into the club.
Graham Hepworth is Director of Golf for the day so please direct any competition and dodgy handicap questions his way!
Looking forward to kicking the season off with a whole club event with both playing and social members there – so if you can’t make golf, be great to see you along for the social.

NFCC Golf Day

Right folks, Steven Bullen is just putting some feelers out to gauge interest for NFCC Golf Day to kick the 2024 season off in early April (atm looking at the 6th). He’ll pop a poll up in the meantime but if we get enough interest the plan will be: Bacon Roll & coffee at the course, Round (can enter a team of four or put your name in the hat to be put into a team), Pint in the clubhouse for those who go off first, Back to the club for food, a few more pints and awards (longest drive, closest to the pin etc). Graham Hepworth is sorting us at Howley Hall Golf Club and finalising costs so will confirm them once we’ve got numbers but to be safe, allow for £30.00 per head. It will be good chance for all members (past & present players welcome) to get together, and no need to be a wonderful golfer to get involved either – getting 100 will be a good start to the season!

Saturday 20th January 2024

We had a really good response to doing work at the club yesterday morning. Our Chairman John Baldwin would like to thank everyone who turned up as we hit all of our goals from mending the fire, logged up, put the large water tank in place, took all torn advertising banners off the fencing to clearing lots of rubbish from the storage area. #oneclub

Farnley Man Completes Epic ‘10k In 10 Days’ Challenge For Charity

Joe Bedford, of Farnley, has dedicated the last ten days over the festive period to run ten kilometres each day, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK and the New Farnley Cricket Club junior section.

Every morning at 8:00am, Joe and his friends from the cricket club have set off walking, running and biking to ensure the challenge is completed. Their goal was to raise over £5,000 for the charities and they succeeded. Joe has kept raising the goal each time they reach a target but wants to keep it achievable.

In 2021, Joe ran nine kilometres over nine days and wanted to go one better this year. Joe told West Leeds Dispatch: “In 2021 I was raising money to buy a defibrillator for the cricket club and for the juniors. This time round my Father-In-Law has been terminally ill with Melanoma UK, it has been a real challenge. I’m not a massive runner but I wanted to do something that would help my mental capacity as well as physically.

“I started on 23 December which meant that I had to go out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and finish on New Year’s Day. I fixed the time at 8:00am so that everybody knew and anyone could join.”

Cancer is a subject very close to Joe’s heart. Sadly, during the challenge Joe’s Father-In-Law, and well-known local man, Billy Sutherland, passed away

Joe could not believe the traction the challenge had gained, going from day one where five people joined, up to New Year’s Eve the group was now over 50 strong and included Joe’s children and wife (who still took part despite her recent loss).

Joe said “I lost my Father-In-Law on day seven, I found out at 6:30am in the morning and my wife was adamant that I go and run at 8:00am. This was really, really challenging but at the same time we got it done, for him. With Cancer Research UK, we just hope that people don’t have to go through what we have as it has been so difficult.”
