Christmas Sing A Long – 19/12/24

A massive thank you to Mrs Emma JM and Lawns Park Primary School for coming along and doing their annual Christmas Carols at New Farnley Cricket Club last night. As always, you were all amazing and everyone enjoyed the evening right through to Quiz. Special mentions to Santa and The Grinch. 🎄🎄🎅🎅 💚 💚

Care In The Community

A massive thank you must go out to one of our loyal sponsors Cravens fish & chips for their due care and attention earlier on this afternoon. During the strong winds, Rita Cummings unfortunately stumbled and whilst doing so, she has a suspected broken leg. Mandy Armitage was serving customers at a busy dinner time rush when the incident occurred but she quickly reacted and managed to sit her upright on the wooden bench inside out of the cold. I waited with my fellow New Farnley Community Centre “Bingo Buddy”until family members arrived some 45mins later who took her to the hospital and we had a right good old chin wag. We’ve all got our fingers crossed and many thanks to Deidre Williams also for her help and assistance which was greatly appreciated.

Christmas Market

A massive pat on the back must go to all of our stallholders and visitors who braved the atrocious weather at yesterday’s New Farnley Cricket Club Christmas Market. The choirs from Lawns Park Primary School and The Farnley Academy did absolutely amazing. Finally, thank you to everyone that helped out yesterday morning, afternoon and evening make it happen. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. ❄️⛄️💦🎅🎄🍷🍺

Wortley Football Club

Congratulations to Lee Wild and Richard Meredith who are the Managers of their respective age groups at Wortley Football Club for coming away with two impressive victories yesterday. Many thanks to Mark Holt and Angela Holt who did a sterling job on the BBQ and to Trevor Wallace for sponsoring the Match Ball which was a lovely gesture. Also, it was very noticeable how busy it was with the parents stopping behind for a drink and a bite to eat after the games.

Hutchison Made Permanent Jersey Director Of Cricket

Paul Hutchison has been appointed as Jersey’s director of cricket on a permanent basis.

The 47-year-old former Yorkshire, Sussex and Middlesex seam bowler was appointed on an interim basis in March after Neil MacRae left the role.

Under Hutchison’s leadership, Jersey’s men progressed to the final round of qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup and are top of ICC Challenge League B.

“It’s nice that, after an initial period, that my bosses have seen the work that I’m doing and they’ve decided ‘this is the right man for the role’,” Hutchison told BBC Sport.

He also oversee all women’s and age group cricket for the island along with his men’s head coach role.

Hutchison says he his focused on continuing the international success of all the island’s sides as they look to climb the ICC rankings.

“We’ve got two big men’s tournaments next year, with the T20 [World Cup] and the 50 overs [ICC Champions Trophy], and we’ll be pushing very hard to try to qualify in both.

“That leads to bigger and better things for everyone involved in Jersey cricket.

“The girls next year have their own ICC tournament which we’ll be pushing very hard for them to get some experience before that and then hopefully have a decent campaign.

“The under-19’s have a World Cup qualifying campaign themselves, so there’s plenty going on over the 2025 season.”

Bonfire & Firework Night – 02/11/24

Well done to everybody involved in the Bonfire & Firework Night and helping to make it a big success. To all our volunteers building the bonfire, gate entry, manning the outdoor bar and bottle bar, BBQ lighting, sweets/pop, collecting glass and rubbish, stewarding, Fireman Sam and setting off the fireworks – a huge thank you. Also, thanks to the hard-working regular bar and catering staff.

A big thank you also to everyone who came along to support and to enjoy the event. If you have friends who attended but don’t usually come in the Club, encourage them to give us a try. We’ve got Sky Sports showing all the big games and we have regular entertainment, some with a small ticket charge, others free. No membership is needed and all are very welcome.
