2024 Sponsorship Opportunities
NFCC Golf Day
Right folks, Steven Bullen is just putting some feelers out to gauge interest for NFCC Golf Day to kick the 2024 season off in early April (atm looking at the 6th). He’ll pop a poll up in the meantime but if we get enough interest the plan will be: Bacon Roll & coffee at the course, Round (can enter a team of four or put your name in the hat to be put into a team), Pint in the clubhouse for those who go off first, Back to the club for food, a few more pints and awards (longest drive, closest to the pin etc). Graham Hepworth is sorting us at Howley Hall Golf Club and finalising costs so will confirm them once we’ve got numbers but to be safe, allow for £30.00 per head. It will be good chance for all members (past & present players welcome) to get together, and no need to be a wonderful golfer to get involved either – getting 100 will be a good start to the season!
Saturday 20th January 2024
We had a really good response to doing work at the club yesterday morning. Our Chairman John Baldwin would like to thank everyone who turned up as we hit all of our goals from mending the fire, logged up, put the large water tank in place, took all torn advertising banners off the fencing to clearing lots of rubbish from the storage area. #oneclub

Farnley Man Completes Epic ‘10k In 10 Days’ Challenge For Charity
Joe Bedford, of Farnley, has dedicated the last ten days over the festive period to run ten kilometres each day, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK and the New Farnley Cricket Club junior section.
Every morning at 8:00am, Joe and his friends from the cricket club have set off walking, running and biking to ensure the challenge is completed. Their goal was to raise over £5,000 for the charities and they succeeded. Joe has kept raising the goal each time they reach a target but wants to keep it achievable.
In 2021, Joe ran nine kilometres over nine days and wanted to go one better this year. Joe told West Leeds Dispatch: “In 2021 I was raising money to buy a defibrillator for the cricket club and for the juniors. This time round my Father-In-Law has been terminally ill with Melanoma UK, it has been a real challenge. I’m not a massive runner but I wanted to do something that would help my mental capacity as well as physically.
“I started on 23 December which meant that I had to go out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and finish on New Year’s Day. I fixed the time at 8:00am so that everybody knew and anyone could join.”
Cancer is a subject very close to Joe’s heart. Sadly, during the challenge Joe’s Father-In-Law, and well-known local man, Billy Sutherland, passed away
Joe could not believe the traction the challenge had gained, going from day one where five people joined, up to New Year’s Eve the group was now over 50 strong and included Joe’s children and wife (who still took part despite her recent loss).
Joe said “I lost my Father-In-Law on day seven, I found out at 6:30am in the morning and my wife was adamant that I go and run at 8:00am. This was really, really challenging but at the same time we got it done, for him. With Cancer Research UK, we just hope that people don’t have to go through what we have as it has been so difficult.”

Developers Support New Farnley Cricket Club
Owzat! Developers behind the new Stonebridge Beck residential development in Wortley have agreed a major sponsorship deal with a West Leeds sports club.
Rushbond Plc and Advent Developments have teamed up with New Farnley Cricket Club for the 2023 cricket season, as part of their joint community support programme.
Georgina Maud, speaking on behalf of the developers, said: “The club is located very close to Stonebridge Beck and I am sure it will prove a popular social destination for residents. Not only do they run a number of cricket teams for both adults and juniors, they also have a lovely club house which is open during the week, serving delicious food.”
John Baldwin, Chairman of New Farnley Cricket Club, commented: “I cannot thank Georgina and her colleagues enough for their most generous support. Hopefully the residents will take advantage of all the club has to offer which includes a fully equipped gym.
“As someone who has spent a lifetime in the building industry I have watched the work being carried at Stonebridge Beck with interest. I have to say the whole scheme looks absolutely superb.”
On completion Stonebridge Beck will consist of 112 properties within a unique mill village location offering a choice of mill townhouses, cottages and new build homes. Prices start from £265,000.
The scheme is located on the former Stonebridge Mills site off Stonebridge Lane, next to the ring road.

Bradford Premier Cricket League Eyes Sign Up’s For New Farnley Umpiring Course
The Bradford Premier Cricket League, like many cricketing organisations up and down the country, is suffering badly from a lack of willing and available umpires to officiate matches.
But they are determined to do something about the issue.
Both the Bradford Premier League itself and the Match Officials Association have stepped up their efforts to increase the number of qualified umpires by announcing two new courses.
In a letter to clubs, league chief executive Alan Birkinshaw said: “While a lot of work is being put in to attracting new members to join the MOA panel, it is also important that the league encourages the upskilling of club umpires.
“In 2023, the indications are that all second team cricket will be staffed by club umpires and the league wants all clubs to get to a position by 2024 of having at least one club umpire with an ECB ACO Stage One qualification.”
The league is keen to have qualified umpires taking charge of second team cricket and it is offering to reimburse the course fees for every club umpire once they achieve accreditation.
Course fees will also be refunded to those joining the MOA Panel once they have umpired 10 games.
It has also indicated that, if there is a shortage of panel umpires in any particular week, a qualified club umpire can be part of the officiating team at their club’s first team game to avoid the need for players to take turns to take on square leg duties, which is what happened in Division Three last season.
Birkinshaw added: “The league understands that many people wish only to umpire at and for their own club.
“By taking the course, there will be no obligation to join the MOA panel, however, if individuals want to step up and move on to the panel they will be supported to do so.”
A Stage One course has been organised at New Farnley Cricket Club on Sunday 19th February 2023 and will take place between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
Free tea, coffee and lunch is provided. The course fee is £30.00 and places can be booked by using the link.
A Stage Two course is being held at New Farnley the following weekend, on Sunday, February 26, with timings again 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Once again there will be free tea, coffee and lunch provided, with the Bradford Premier League encouraging as many club umpires as possible to do both courses as it will enhance their understanding and skills.
The link for the Stage Two course can be found here.
When candidates enrol for the Stage One course they will receive a discount code for the Stage Two course, which will mean they only have to play £10.
When a candidate passes the Stage One course they will receive free membership of the ECB ACO for their first year, which includes free insurance for both accidents on the field of play and travelling to the game.
Before the season, the league, in conjunction with the MOA, is looking to stage a roadshow for club umpires in March.
For 2023, there are new laws which will need to be implemented and Duckworth Lewis Stern is being introduced in all matches played under the jurisdiction of the Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League.
There will also be refresher training sessions for existing members of the MOA Umpiring panel.
The letter to clubs concluded: “Club umpires play an increasingly important role, and it is essential as a league that we acknowledge that with appropriate help and support.
“The league has preferred to use the carrot rather than the stick over the issue of the provision of umpires.
“Previous appeals for help have met with only very limited response. Let’s all try and make a real difference this time.
“If we can have qualified umpires standing in all second team cricket through persuasion rather than the big stick, that will be a huge step in the right direction.”
The two courses are ECB ACO accredited and are advertised nationally so it is important to book places early.
If there is sufficient demand, extra courses will be put on.
